Lavacrum Veneris

In response to Photo Challenge CAMERA LUCIDA : Black and green

The romans called her ‘Basin of Venus’, as she collects rainwater in the base of her flower. Her common name is ‘Teasel’, for her spikes form a comb that was used to ‘tease’ out wool fibres. Her nectar is a favourite of butterflies and bees, and goldfinch are especially fond of her seeds. Yet more, her exquisite  stature is beloved by us.
